I am currently reviewing our staff turnover and the reasons why our people are leaving. Unfortunately, we have not conducted many exit interviews, which I know is a key resource to help explain why employees are leaving the company.
Does anyone know or use any other techniques or methods to determine the reasons why their employees leave the company?
One method I've used in a previous company was to get a survey tool (generally around $500 a year licence), and make up a survey, then send onto the former employee around 2 weeks after they have left. Of course you need their details to be able to do this and you need to keep it short, less than 10 questions, we had around 75% completion rate doing this and it gave some great feedback.
If you're having an issue around customer facing employees, then it might make sense to look at customer related issues like complaints and service problems. Often turnover is caused as much by subjective performance measurement (as opposed to objective) as external factors like job offers or compensation levels.
