I have tried school newsletters with limited success (which may have been due to the type of role). Some charge, some expect a donation and some insertions are free.

Have you tried Uni/TAFE websites, do you have an area on your own website, internal referrals.
Have no other idea besides the ones listed here and previously.

    Hi Emz,

I agree with Belinda's suggestion that you try Uni/TAFE websites. I just want to add to this by suggesting you attend their career fares/expos, as they give you the chance to meet the students in person and answer their questions. They can also learn about your organisation and what you have to offer. You may even be able to give presentations at these institutions, which will achieve a similar outcome. You need to make sure that you have something to offer students/graduates before you start. Kids gaining entry into employment want some form of mentoring, work rotations, training, and eventurally progression.

Another option you could look into is increasing the diversity of your workplace through the employment of people from EEO groups. There are organisations providing employment services targeting these groups. I think most are free to employers.

Finally, you might want to try professional bodies relevant to your industry.

    Hope it all works out.

    Cheers
    Michaela

It is really hard to comment on the action you should take without knowing the person you are trying to attract.

For example, if I am looking for a CFO - advertising in a local school newspaper is unlikely to yeild any real result, but if I was looking for a casual cleaner or receptionist it might be a good way to go. Perhaps you could give us an idea of who you are looking for and we can throw some ideas around!

Adding to what has been said above, a lot of the universities also offer Mentor programs, where businesses can offer mentoring opportunities. Also attending an evening course at these institutions also offers a very different pool of candidates. These people are normally working in industry, have experience and are motivated to improve.

If you have recruited before, you also have the option revisit your previously interviewed pool of candidates. You have already spent time and money doing this. There is software available that enables these candidates to track any position in your firm that is currently filled. In the instance that it becomes available again they are automatically notified.

Attending an industry related seminar, or asking your existing database of contacts for referrals and also provide a wealth of unexpected tallent.
