National OH&S Act?

Am I correct in thinking that there is not yet any national OH&S legislation? (other than for Commonwealth employees)

Hi Moz, you're correct. There is no National OH&S legislation just yet. It's been something in the backburner for almost 2 or 3 decades. However, they are making in-roads into it....there is a National OH&S model legislative framework in it's advanced stages of development. Public consultations and revisions have been undertaken and we should see a national system probably in 2011 or 2012.

This process falls short of the mark in terms of setting a high bar on the important issue of workplace safety. Just as we did with Work-choices we will rally in the streets to ensure that this government does not undermine the strong OH&S laws developed by unions over many years in Australia.
