Generation Y has long been known for job-hopping, showing little concern for their employers on the subject of job loyalty. However, mature workers are now applying the ‘quick money, quick success’ mindset, as it spreads throughout the Australian workplace.
According to a recent poll, 82 per cent of workers in the 41-55 age bracket are seeking new jobs.
Factors such as low unemployment rates, shortage of skilled workers and the mining boom all play part in driving wages and job opportunities up. This is allowing perspective workers to be selective and demanding.
The survey concluded that the need for ‘a challenge’ was the main reason for mature workers to forget job loyalty. Other reasons included: a desire for career-progression, need for change, interest in exploring a different industry and increased income.
