Default Annual Leave Stockpiled

Australian workers are stockpiling annual leave days and collectively holding on to the equivalent of 70 million days of annual leave.

A survey released in 2006 suggests that people are struggling to achieve a balanced work-life balance due to economic boom and demands on workers. The research has prompted ‘No Leave, No Life’, a campaign launched by Tourism Australia and the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI). It highlights the benefits of taking holidays, promoting employee wellbeing and ensuring greater workplace productivity for employers.

Medical and health experts advise that failure to take time off work could lead to mental health problems such as increased anxiety and depression. Overworked people have also experienced high blood pressure, general lethargy and fatigue.

Workers are advised to be proactive in taking time off work to avoid emotional and mental pressures.

If you’re stockpiling your annual leave, visit No Leave, No Life for ideas on your next Australian holiday destination. For valuable information on maintaining employees wellbeing read the full story here.
