Here in Australia concerns have been raised about employers and recruiters surreptitiously "checking out" candidates on the web, including looking at their personal profile on social media sites such as Facebook.

Understandably, many people feel this is an invasion of their privacy, and has nothing to do with their ability to do a job or their previous work experience.

In the USA it seems, some employers have a very different view and have begun asking job applicants for their Facebook password at interview, or asking applicants to "friend" an HR manager so he or she can view the applicant's Facebook profile.
