Dogs at Work - Yes or No?

There seems to be increasing discussion in the media about dogs being allowed into the workplace.

As a dog lover I can see why there would be a lot of support for bringing dogs into work, but it's easy to imagine how the situation could get a little hairy, especially with multiple pooches in the office on the same day!

There have been studies on the topic in the USA in recent years such as this one mentioned by the Economist and a recent SBS news article said that as much as 20% of companies in the USA now allow employees to bring their dog into the workplace.

So what do you think about having dogs in the workplace, what's the situation at your company? Do you have a "workplace dog policy" yet ?

My guess is that the vast majority of Australia companies would put this in the "too hard" basket as there are WAY too many variables and things that could go wrong.

It would however, undoubtedly be fun :)

As for the USA stats - 20% is hard to believe, but I gather some biggies like Google allow people to bring their dogs into work. But then Google apparently do a lot of unconventional things! I wonder if Google Australia allow dogs in the workplace?
