Default Permanent illness VS Temporary illness

Hi,

I hope someone can give me a bit more clearness on the above issue. Now I am comfortable with most cases but tend to doubt myself in circumstances where a staff member has been off sick more than 3 months (is that 60 days???) unpaid and it is not and injuty on duty. It is at this stage we start looking at it as permanent illness if the trent continues after you had a discussion with the staff member.

The issue I have is that if it is sick leave take...........1 day here 1 day there for different type of reasons ....from a stomach bug to flu, sick child to whatever reasons....., I don't see it as permanent illness but rather permanent incapacity to attend work. How would you approach this conversation with a staff member and would you cal it permanent illness, permanent incapacity, or something else?
