You could also check out Jobs in HR if you want to cut through the "noise" on Seek.

    Dear Ram,

If all your experience is in India you are going to find it very tough to secure an HR job in Australia. Even if your verbal and written English language is exceptional, you are up against candidates with local experience and knowledge of local employment law and the nuances of the Australian workplace and Australian culture.

It's not like an engineering or science job where the technical skills are often the most important and similar the world over, HR is all about dealing with people, so the individual's 'soft' skills and their knowledge of local conditions are often of paramount importance.

The HR market at present is quite balanced, nowhere near it's peak in 2009. There is not really a shortage of HR people, apart from some specialist HR disciplines. Some employers might struggle to fill roles because they don't pay enough and/or their recruitment process is flawed, but the more senior the postion the less likely they are to compromise and offer the position to someone with no local experience.

By far the biggest markets for HR jobs are Sydney & Melbourne, probably in that order, followed by Brisbane and Perth, but they are all expensive cities to live in and Australia has experienced an unprecedented inlfation in the cost or residential property in the last ten years, so to live well here you need to be earning quite a lot of money.

I don't want to put you off, but I have seen too many migrants to Australia burn all their life's savings while they try in vain to get a job in their chosen profession, so it's important to be realistic about your chances of getting an HR job.

You are very sensible to ask these questions before you make the leap and actually move to Australia, but don't believe anyone who tells you it will be simple or straightforward.

    Good luck.

The Victorian Government lists all the sponsored, in "demand" jobs on their Live in Victoria site. You can find a job in victoria through it but you'll note that there is nothing like PR or HR, it's all engineering or nursing etc.
