Default How is Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Viewed?

    Hi Everyone
I would appreciate some advice on how the Certificate IV in TAA is viewed as a qualification relevant to a HR generalist.

I am currently seeking a career change from a large format retail store manager to a HR Generalist position and after seeing the Cert IV mentioned in a number of HR job ads wondered if gaining this qualification would help with this career change. My current qualifications are a Bachelor of Business and also a MBA majoring in HRM.

I'm not interested in a taking on a specialist L&D role, but rather a generallist position that involves a component of L&D.

How helpful would a Cert Iv be in helping make this career shift??

    Thanks for your assistance
    Katie

Cert IV TAA is useful if the position requires you to conduct any form of training.

Is it at all common for employers to fund their employee to undertake this course?

How about those other handy qualifications like Return to Work Coordinator?

I've just completed my Bachelor of Business in HR and not sure if I should spend the money to get these courses done....

I'm currently a HR Administrator, and I do mostly just recruitment so things like this aren't needed. But I am looking for find more of a Generalist role next year.

Should I do these courses to be more attractive to employers?

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, particularly TAE40110, replaces the previous TAA40104, in order to improve the competencies of trainers and assessors. This training program is designed to help a trainer develop skills to confidently train groups and individuals in various types of organizations, whether in the public or corporate sector.

    Brooke,

I would go to your current employer and explore the possibility of them partly funding for your 'professional development'. A lot of the employers would prefer you already have them however you could always do what I have and find an employer who is a believer in training and will happily put you through regular training, when that time comes to move on.

How long have you been in your current role?

If you are interested in gaining a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, I believe there is a national government initiative called the Productivity Places Program. This program subsidises those areas that are experiencing a skills shortage and the Cert IV TAA is on the list. There are several streams available. One is for existing workers and the Government will subsidise up 60% of the course cost. The one that I am aware of in Western Australia requires participants to have commenced the course by 31 Oct 2011 but I am unsure of other state requirements.

I can provide more information if you wish.
