Employee Development Mentoring / Coaching

Hi All,

I have recently been offered one on one coaching / development training from my manager in the hope to fast track my learning and development to get the best out of me and to get me ready for a position in the near future. I have jumped at this opportunity to learn from an external party but I was just wondering if anyone could recommend someone or a consultancy firm that specialise in this? There are a few out there so thought I would ask the forum directly.

Also, just out of curiosity has anyone had a development coach? How was your experience? Any tips to get the best out of my time with them?

I've not known anyone to use a firm for this, with most coaching / development / mentoring relationships either set up within the company, or through the industry / career specific peak body.

Having said that, I've known a few middle to senior managers that have said they did seek career guidance from private companies which set some of these in place, so perhaps that might be what you are referring to
