    Default job interview

How to prepare for a job interview:

    Research the potential employer
Find out more about the job being offered
Prepare and rehearse your job interview responses

What other things do you know?

What sort of position is it?

    In general:

Look presentable (you'd be surprised how many scruffy torn jeans wearing people we get coming in for interviews).

    Be there early.

Have questions - lots of them
    - about the job
    - about the reporting structure
    - hours
    - extras - eg parking, facilities
    - why has this position come about
    - how their business is going (unless they are listed, in which case check out their annual report before you go in too)

The typical questions you'll get hit with:
    1. why did you leave your current/last position
    2. where are you looking to get to (career wise etc)
    3. biggest achievements to date
    4. your weakest points (think carefully about this one - anyone who says they have no weakness get's an automatic no go on my interviews)
    5. why do you want this job? ("Just filling the interview quota to keep getting the dole" is not a good response....)

A good interviewer can tell lies from a mile away - so be honest, but don't give out unnecessary info if it is going to have a negative inmpact- tell only as much as they need to.

Take any transcripts of certificates, degrees etc. (if relevant)

Make sure you have an ample supply of real life examples in your head that you can draw upon during the interview to highlight your achievements and successes. When talking about achievements, be ready and able to talk in financial terms about the impact of your achievements. HR professionals who understand the bottom line have a huge head start over the others.
