I'm a member of TalkPoint, a networking forum for heads of HR. Good value, and well run - each group is set up so that the other companies represented in your group are not business competitors, so discussion is frank and open. We meet once a month for half a day, with a facilitator, guest speaker, topical discussion item, and open forum for discussing current issues facing our businesses. A few times per year there are other workshops on special topics, as well as combined sessions with other groups and social gatherings. The opportunity to run ideas and strategies past peers and get honest feedback is very useful from a business perspective. Good stuff.

Hi All,

I agree that networking is a great idea - except Perth does not appear to have many opportunities around.

Cheers

Hi I don't attend many network functions, but do I agree that it is a valuable way to knowledge share in a non-competitve environment.

While I appreciate that face to face networking can be very worthwhile, the reality is that many people don't have the time to meet with peers regularly. Face to face networking opportunity is also quite limited due to geographical constraints.

This is why we created HR Buzz, as a neutral environment where HR people could share ideas and information regardless of where they are

I am a member of the networking group run by HR Partners in Sydney and completly agree with KevinH that time can sometimes play a part as to when and if you can attend.

This company usually organises early morning sessions in the City so you can make it back in the office by 9... not only do you deal with current trends & topics the networking opportunties to discuss openly at the end of each session form a great ice-breaker. .

Hi Michaela,

Perth does have a few options

There is obviously AHRI but there is also Via Appia- Networking WA. They run a Recruiter think tank, and have other industry events.

I think HR Buzz is a great forum, Linkedin is also great for keeping in touch.

Thanks for sharing your feedback!
