An increasing number of workers in Australia are finding that they are becoming underemployed, as a greater volume of firms tone down the hours that they are able to offer to those in their charge.

Lower business sentiments among firms that are still worrying about their economic performance has meant that there is now a growth in two trend in particular across Australia.

On one hand, some companies are simply cutting the hours that are available in their business, either by reducing what is available to those working for them, or by taking on more new members of part-time staff to replace those who have left full-time positions.
