Some of it's findings are very similar to the survey produced for Hudson in 2008 by Sweeney Research. Specifically, it confirms that a huge percentage of the workforce are not actively looking for new jobs.


Group 1 (23%) are happy and not looking at all
Group 2 (47%) are happy but open to moving if the right position comes along
Group 3 (16%) are keeping their options open by occasionally scanning newspapers, the internet, networking or chatting to recruiters, and
Group 4 (14%) are actively looking and regularly scanning newspapers, the internet, networking or chatting to recruiters


Ironically, the chances of reaching Groups 2 & 3 with a job ad on one of the big multi discipline job boards, like CareerOne, are very slim. Why? - because Group 3 scan the internet "occasionally" and Group 2 obviously scan the internet even less than "occasionally"!

That's 63% of the workforce that scan the internet for job ads "occasionally" (16%), or less than "occasionally" (47%).

If "occasionally" is once per week, what are the chances of them seeing your job ad among the thousands of others?
