Hi,

I've just completed a degree in HR, and looking at other qualifications I can obtain to build up my CV.

I eventually want to be a HR Manager of a hotel, so could anyone give me some advice on a good OH&S course for my needs?

Any other suggestions on handy short courses would be great as well.

Thanks!

You could do a Cert IV in OH&S or the 5 day OH&S course. For a HR Manager at a hotel, this would be sufficient, unless you want to specialise in OH&S.

I'd recommend doing a Graduate Certificate in OH&S. Having a HR degree and then going to TAFE can create subconscious associations from a recruiter in my opinion.

The good thing about a Grad Cert is it counts towards a Grad Diploma or even a Masters if you wanted to carry on with it - or even apply credits towards a Masters in another area (i.e. MHRM). If not, it's a tertiary qualification and isn't that onerous really (4 units). Though I'm sure it's a lot more expensive than TAFE... need to balance that up.

For example, here is some info on a Grad Cert in OH&S.
Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management: Curtin University of Technology (http://courses.curtin.edu.au/course_overview/postgraduate/GCert-OHS)

SAI Global have a very good course in an Advanced Diploma in OHS which incorperates RABQSA certificates of attainment for auditing. It is a blended learning holistic course that essentially empowers you with the knowlege and information to establish and maintain the governance of your OHSMS, and you are assessed from that. You could also try doing some short OHS courses online to beef up your CV and skills quickly. You can find a lot of office safety and workplace safety courses here: OHS Training (http://alertforce.com.au)
