I have been asked by some employees if we are going to hold a Kris Kringle this year. This would be a great tool for our company to interact, however was wondering if anyone else had organised this and if they provided employees with any guidelines.

Thanks Belinda

we've done this most successfully in previous years...
firstly employees elect to participate in the event; then we email providing employees with a theme (in previous examples we've used: coffee cups (a good way of supplementing the office supply of cups); desk pen/pencil caddies; desk calendars/diaries; - all office / work based items); we've stipulated the $ceiling (usually $10); with the Receptionist usually running the ballot of the participating EEs and coordinating the return of wrapped & labelled gifts by a certain date.
the gifts are either given out in our last morning tea for the year (we run monthly birthday morning teas) or on the day of the xmas party...
if you allow time for each person to open their gift as presented, it can create a good buzz and is a good precursor for staff interaction...
this works well for our crowd of 60+ staff
good luck

They're great fun, but even in HR circles I've seem some gifts go "wrong".

This year we're forgoing the Kris Kringle and donating presents to those less fortunate.

However, to keep some of the fun/team building aspects that Kris Kringle brings, we're doing it differently - each person has to give another member of the team an "award". I'm sure it'll be humorous and possibly offensive to some, but let's see how it goes and have a little fun!

We do hold Kris Kringle each year. Employees nominate to be involved. We have a $10 limit and remind staff that gifts must be appropriate for the workplace and not offensive etc. People pull a name out of the hat and buy for that person.
HR sends out a memo every year encouraging people to have fun over the Christmas season but to ensure they and are those around them are safe and that they are sensitive about Kris Kringle presents being bought. We open them on our last day of work, with all those participating watching. We've had great fun presents and no problems for many years.
