Rochelle,

New employee induction is going to vary depending on the work environment. What type of work environment are you in?

Hi there,

I agree with Kevin that the induction program itself does depend on the type of workplace you are in. However, here are some suggested items you may want to provide in a starter pack on or before their first day, in addition to a contract/agreement and a letter of employment.

To be signed by employee

Confidentiality Agreement

Driver Declaration Form if employees drive a car for work purposes (check with your insurer)

Permission Slip - in case you have social functions where photos are taken. Always a good idea just to be safe, especially when staff photos are placed on the company's website or in newsletters etc.

Social Club Form (if relevant and they want to join)

Deduction Authority - this would be signed by staff allocated with a company car, who have money deducted from their pay to cover personal usage. It is a good idea if you make deductions as it shows that the employee has authorised it.

You should also develop (if appropriate) and get them to sign a Motor Vehicle Agreement detailing the terms of use for the vehicle.

Policy Declaration, containing a list of baseline policies (such as OH&S, Grievances, Bullying etc) which apply to staff regardless of their role. This documents that they have read, understood, and agree to adhere to them, and any consequences which may occur in cases of serious or wilful breaches.

General Information

A Staff Handbook. This should go over all the basics regarding your organisation, such as an intro to the company history, Mission, Vision, Values, goals, structure, what different departments are responsible for, an outline of any important policies etc they need to know (OHS, grievance process, bullying, performance management & disciplinary processes, timesheet or payroll procedures, staff training opportunities, generic conditions such as Employee Assistance Program or use of facilities, info about recognition programs, along with any other information that will help new people become familiar with your company and help them settle in. Basically it is a Quick Guide.

If you want to minimise paperwork for people to fill out, you may wish to put relevant clauses into your employment contract or agreement if you are able to do so. However there may still be some things that people need to fill out. It all depends on the industry and environment you work in.

Hope this helps.

:)

Cheers
