Has anyone had recent experience with implementing an online performance mgt tool? My organisation (approx 3000 employees) is looking to roll something out this year however the budget is limited.

Hi ped,

a well known government department implemented an online performance management system back in 2000/2001 very successfully.

Cannot recall the name of the system however it is used at all levels of the organisation with managers having access to all of their staff performance management information and upon transfer, the new manager then obtains access to this information. It is a great system, easy to use, and with little maintenance attached once set up.

Happy to talk further to you regarding the organisation and system if you like.

Hi Ped,

The biggest thing to watch out for is going for too much automation and/or making the process overly complex for managers and employees. Saving time in the HR department through automation is no good if you have 3,000 employees spending an extra hour using a piece of technology. Much of the issues that organisation face with online performance management, assuming an a vendor who matches your desired processes is selected, tend to relate to a lack of change management during implementation.

You should also look at Halogen Software (http://www.halogensoftware.com). They've got all the features you can possibly need + I especially love their flexible performance appraisal forms (http://www.halogensoftware.com/products/halogen-eappraisal/employee-evaluation-forms/). All the other vendors I looked at forced us to use their pre-made form templates or would charge us extra fees to adapt one of theirs.

A very affordable Australian-designed online performance appraisal software system (http://www.appraisal-smart.com.au/) is Appraisal Smart. They also have a rather unique 360 degree feedback system and a fantastic learning management module. Definitely worth looking at.

Without a shadow of a doubt, "SuccessFactors" is the way forward. Gartner has recently placed them so far ahead in the leader's quadrant, it would be very difficult for one not to consider a "SuccessFactors" solution.
